Best Pattaya budget
restaurant: Looking Glass Magazine May 2009
The best Pattaya budget restaurant is Peter's on Naklua Road,
not Peter's Bakery, which is my number one overall best by Jack Corbett.
Let me clarify.
This is German Peter's, not Belgium Peter's.
Still confused? Naklua the municipality just North of Pattaya
is blessed by a large number of German Restaurants, many of them excellent.
Peter's deserves the Looking Glass number one rating for the area's best
budget restaurant because it's actually better than at least two thirds of
the other German restaurants at 25 to 50 % lower prices.
For example every day Peter's offers its daily special at only 99 baht
which is only about $2.75 U.S. This special is normally a meat dish
such as Schnitzel or Sauerbraten, with a snall salad portion that is
absolutely delicious, and your choice of either potatoes or noodles which
the Germans call Spatzel served in an extremely tasty gravy or sauce that
is so good that I can't bring myself to wasting a single spoonful of it.
Like Panino's, our top rated restaurant overall, which is ironically also
called Peter's Bakery, Peter's also has a bakery on the premises so what I
often do is to purchase a mini loaf or two of German bread for about 13
baht each which I will then eat while sopping up that excellent
sauce.
One can of course come in just to buy one's bread here which I will often
take home with me. Peter's also offers a nice selection of imported
cheeses and meats from a refrigerated display towards the back of the
restaurant. Like Panino's the service here is excellent. And
although normally I will simply order whatever's on the daily special, I'm
still not a fan of blood sausage and since Wednesday is blood sausage day,
I'll order off the menu. Which is like Panino's menu both
interesting and extensive. Although there's many items that are
considerably cheaper, and no doubt not nearly as filling, I will usually
opt for a 129 baht dish.
My favorite day is the
restaurant's Schnitzel buffet day when Peter has four different German
salad dishes laid out on the buffet table with the Schnitzel and other
meat, potato salad, tomatoes and onions, a German slaw dish, and a
cucumber salad. Helluva deal for 99 baht.
