Madam Nook's Restaurant Reviews for North Pattaya and Naklua

Who better to review the restaurants for Pattaya than Madam Nook, a young and very pretty Thai woman who is real life is an accountant.  All of which means that Madam Nook can really make those numbers add up to give the right answer. 

But there's thousands of restaurants in Pattaya, which  is far too many for one person to get around to, so Madam Nook will start with Naklua which is just North of Central Pattaya past the Dolphin Roundabout at 2nd  and North Pattaya Roads and in time begin to work her way downwards. 

Madam Nook uses the five star method for evaluating those lucky restaurants that will attract her roving eye.  That's five stars for excellent and only one star for piss poor.  Then she hands out her stars to each restaurant for four categories she considers to be most important which are 1.  Food quality, 2.  Price  3.  Beauty and ambience, and 4.  Service. 

Sure, there are lots of restaurants offering great Western food at a very high price by Thai standards.  What sets Madam Nook's reviews off from the rest are 1. She's going to only rate the quality of the Thai food which is typically much less expensive than the Western menu selections and 2.  Being Thai and a penny pinching accountant at that,  Madam Nook is simply not going to think very highly of any restaurant that she thinks is overpriced and gouging the consumer.

Cafe Anton's forte is its German dishes including a buffet for just 165 baht.  The Schnitzel with mushrooms, onions and fries was excellent and ample and it included all the soup and salad you would want from the buffet table. American breakfasts are around 85 baht.  This one needs repeat visits since the only reason it garnered just two stars is that it has only a few Thai selections and Madame Nook is after all, Thai.

With a great breeze off the Gulf of Thailand as you sit just one hundred feet from the water's edge, beer runs from 45 to 60 baht a bottle while the food is also considerably less than at the Long Beach Beach side restaurant next door.

To be fair, an English friend tells us the English breakfast is excellent as is the Fish and chips, but Madame Nook had the Thai food which is substandard.

Madame Nook rates this one only One star.  Why?  It's simple, Cafe Mirage doesn't sell Thai food but what it does do it does extremely well, such as serving some of the best coffee in Pattaya, excellent breakfast's at a reasonable price and homemade bread worth dying for.

The American breakfast here costs just 59 baht.  But it looks like a loss leader as both the German and British breakfasts are substantially cheaper.  The German dishes are a bit higher than average.   Absence of Thai food is the only reason Heidelberg only rates one half a star.

Very reasonably priced this unpretentious German restaurant offers a surprisingly extensive menu of both German and Thai food.

Mike and I would give the little restaurant just off the ocean at the West end of the pool here at the Long Beach five stars for ambience as the view is spectacular plus there's a great cooling breeze off the ocean, but Madame Nook feels the restaurant itself is not up to five star caliber, thus her four star rating.

Located on the East side of Naklua Road just North of Soi 14.  If you go past a gas station on the West side of Naklua Road you have gone about 200 yards too far.  This is a buffet but you cook your own at your table for 100 baht a person.

Located on Soi 16 at Wongamat Beach in Naklua Madame Nook could not identify or associate a name with the very small restaurant.  What it does offer are very low prices (try 60 baht for full American breakfast's with some Thai dishes starting as low as 35 baht combined with excellent savory Thai dishes.  But it is so small one would hardly notice it as a restaurant.

On Naklua Road on the East side of the street a hundred yards North of Soi 18 and practically across from Siam Commercial Bank, No Name II as its name implies has no visible name on the place.  But never mind--our entrees ran us just 60 baht apiece and an order of Spring Rolls cost just 40 baht.  Moreover, all dishes were excellent and the portions were fairly substantial.

Although there are only a few Thai selections on the Pink Lady II's menu, there seems to be a great variety of Western dishes at very low prices for Western food which makes this restaurant well worth investigating.  Weak menu for Thai dishes is reason for only a two star rating.  American breakfast is just 70 baht.

A German restaurant also serving Thai food it's on Soi 16 in the Wongamat Beach area of Naklua.  It's just a hundred yards or so East of the winding road heading North into Naklua off Soi 16 about 1/2 mile East of the beaches.
